Portait Study
This painting was an introduction to underpaintings inspired by Rembrandt and other Baroque artists. The underpainting was completed at RIT in my painting class, but the painting process was disrupted when the University sent the students home due to the pandemic. The painting was completed remotely in April.

Oil paint on canvas

This was my final painting for the first semester of my Advanced Painting course. I wanted to work with a similar palette and process to the old painting masters, so I started with using burnt sienna, raw umber, and white paint to create the underpainting. The colors were glazed on top to add dimension and depth to the work.
